Breeding is unknown as are his sire and dam, however, it’s believed to be Cob or Cob X.

This super chilled out riding horse is a brilliant, steady, and safe all-rounder who will just make you smile from ear-to-ear!! See the footage below of him out hacking alone, but he’s also good in company and never rushes or races, but prefers to be in front.
History: Born and bred in SE England, he was broken at three years old by those in the travelling community, as is our understanding from his previous owner. At four, he was sold to his previous owner who drove him in a small two-wheel trap with a very small “quick hitch” harness, occasionally hacked but never schooled.
When he came to us it was understood he needed to drive for our client and went to a professional carriage driver for an assessment. With a standard harness he panicked; he was so scared and literally was shaking like a leaf. The result, declared by a professional with decades of driving experience, he was unfit as a driving pony. To that end, he’s been hacked, schooled, jumped and competed to bring his ridden work up to a reasonable level — he is a fabulous safe and steady riding pony. As a result of this training he is a very well-behaved, steady (possibly slightly backwards going) all-round pony who would be a superb addition to any equine home.

We can’t see Charlie making a high level PC pony, he’s just NOT a whizzy competition type. He is a great, laid back and chilled lad who would be ideally suited to a family with kids of various abilities and maybe a parent who also rides. He loves to be fussed and cuddled and is happy to potter with a beginner on lead rein or hack out with a more experienced rider and canter through fields.
Likes and Dislikes
Believe it or not, Charlie is such a laid back boy; he’s really not fussed or bothered by anything he’s seen or done whilst he’s been at the farm. He’s a cuddly boy (but on his own terms); so sweet and gentle with everything he does.
Whilst he’s been here he’s been in a sole paddock so I cannot say if he would be ok with mares but he came from a mixed herd of five in his previous home.
His schooling isn’t perfect after only two months of training but he could ride a lovely little intro test but isn’t yet ready for prelim due to a lack of suppleness. He is quick to learn and has progressed hugely since arriving here.
Charlie has a nice little pop over fences and although he has no passion for jumping he can give a lovely round at about 50-60cm’s. We’ve also taken him over small XC fences and obstacles and nothing has phased him. He showed more enthusiastiasm for XC so that combined with jumping during fun rides could bring out the best in him.
As an example of how amazing he is, we put a complete beginner 7yo boy on Charlie for a lead rein lesson. After 20 minutes we took Charlie off lead rein and he really shined. See the fantastic video below that showcases his strengths.
He has always loaded calmly and without fuss; to date he’s a little star to load and will stand in the box for short periods of time. The video below illustrates how great he is to load.
It is our feeling that Charlie will make an amazing family pony or low level all-rounder. He’s is a very safe and steady horse who really looks after his rider with very little whiz. He likes to go out hacking and would be great to teach a little rider what it’s like to be out in our fabulous countryside.
Charlie does have a vice; he’s amazing to hack and neither stupid nor silly in open spaces. He’s better in front, and I am declaring he has done a single buck on occasions when going up into canter BUT only if he’s behind. As an accredited coach, this behaviour has interested me and I’ve tested him and watch his character when moving him (in canter) from behind to in front and back again and he truly likes to be in front; it’s bizarre to watch. He’s been hoof-perfect in front. I have also been working a lot on him being behind in canter and he’s shown fabulous improvement. The 14yo who rides him (with her mum on another of our horses) has never been behind in canter; she loves him and has never seen this behaviour, he has never ever bucked with her.
In the school, if he is pushed quite hard, which we do to encourage improvement, he’ll let you know he’s not impressed with a small buck or kick out a leg. We totally understand if this puts you off. We’re interested to find the right person who will work best for him.
In terms of his medical history, he’s had feather mites for several years. His previous owner wanted to keep his feathers and medicated with Dectomax. However, the condition led to sores around his fetlocks due to dreadfully muddy conditions that he had previously been in. Because of this, he was fairly uncomfortable with his fetlocks. To solve all those problems I’ve clipped off his feathers (he was a gem to do and I’ve got video). As a result, all his sores have cleared up, the scabs and scars are all gone and there are no signs of mites. I’m selling him with full disclosure and strongly suggest you keep his feathers clipped. Otherwise, Charlie, no medical issues. He had a 5-stage vetting, which he passed in February (three months ago) for insurance. The vetting was carried out by Chiltern Equine, a large vet’s practice in Bucks/Berks which I’m happy to release the records
